OUR HISTORY

Over the past 25 years, LEAF has developed from a European forest-based educational programme into an international model for outdoor education and ecosystem restoration.

LEAF was initiated in 1999 by the Forest in Schools programme in Norway, Sweden and Finland. In cooperation with the Foundation for Environmental Education, the programme rolled out globally in the spring of 2000. Throughout the years, the programme founders were involved in LEAF’s activities as part of the International Steering Committee.

The International LEAF Coordinator and FEE Head Office are responsible for the day-to-day management of the LEAF programme and its activities. FEE Head Office supports the development of the programme in new countries and supports existing countries by exchanging best practices and resources.
